I recently visited the newly renovated Bonhams New York building. Along with Sotheby’s, Christie’s, and Phillips, Bonhams is a global leader in the auction market. Although I never had the chance to visit their previous location, I wanted to see the new space after hearing the news of its reopening.
The building is located on 57th Street, right on Billionaires' Row south of Central Park in Manhattan. They have moved into a truly historic site: the legendary Steinway Hall, which served as the headquarters for the world-renowned piano maker Steinway & Sons. Built in 1925 by the same architects who designed Grand Central Terminal, the building is steeped in history.
What impressed me most was how they preserved the original piano showroom next to the first-floor exhibition space. It added a profound sense of tradition and heritage to the venue. Bonhams appears to occupy about five floors of the building. The exhibition space is divided into three main areas: the first-floor lobby gallery, a smaller gallery on the second floor, and another spacious floor dedicated to antique furniture and interior decor.

작년 새단장을 마친 본햄스 뉴욕 빌딩 다녀왔어요. 소더비, 크리스티, 필립스와 함께 전세계 옥션 시장을 이끌고있는 회사에요. 전 이전빌딩은 가보지는 못했지만, 새롭게 단장을 했다는 소식을 듣고 다녀와봤어요. 뉴욕 맨하탄의 센트럴파크 남쪽 빌리어네어 로우인 57번가에 위치하고 있구요. 역사적인 건물로 이전을 했다고해요. 피아노로 유명한 스타인웨이 앤 선즈(Steinway & Sons) 의 본사였던 '스타인웨이 홀(Steinway Hall)'이구요. 그랜드 센트럴 터미널을 설계한 건축가들이 1925년에 지은 아주 유서 깊은 건물이에요.
백년이 넘은 유서깊은 건물에 일층 전시장 옆 공간에는 오래된 피아노 전시장을 그대로 살려놓은 인테리어도 인상 깊었구요. 그래서 더욱 전통있는 장소로 느껴지기도 했어요. 본햄스는 그 건물을 한 5층 정도까지 사용하는것 같았어요. 전시장은 총 3개 구역으로 나뉘어져 있구요. 1층 로비 전시장, 2층 작은 전시장, 그리고 한개층 넓은 공간을 고가구와 인테리어 용품으로 채워서 전시하고 있었어요. 바쁜 와중에도 직원들은 모두 친절했구요, 제가 건물에서 길을 잃었는데 직접 안내해줘서 편안하게 관람할수 있었어요.
I’ve brought some video footage to share. I hope to improve my filming skills soon so I can capture even better content, but I think it’ll take a bit more time and practice. Whenever I’m in a rush, the shots always end up feeling a little too fast. Still, I hope you enjoy watching.

The images and clips up to this point show the first-floor lobby gallery and the space with the pianos. It seems the artworks in the lobby are rotated once an exhibition ends, while the pianos appear to be a permanent installation.
여기까지는 일층 로비전시장과 피아노가 있는 공간이었구요
로비공간은 작품이 전시기간 지나면 교체되는것 같아요. 피아노는 여기 영구 설치 되어있는것 같구요.
This was a lobby-like exhibition space on the upper floor. There were artworks displayed all around, and the layout allowed for a bird's-eye view of the first-floor lobby below.
As you pass through this area and head further inside, you’ll find a large showroom dedicated to furniture and interior decor.
여긴 위에층으로 올라가면 있는 로비 전시공간 같은 곳이었어요. 여기저기 작품들이 많이 전시되어있었구요. 아래층 로비도 한눈에 내려다볼수있는 구조의 공간이에요.
이 공간을 지나 안쪽으로 들어가면 큰 가구 인테리어 전시장이 나와요.
An exhibition titled "The Evan Lobel Collection" was underway, and the vast space was entirely filled with furniture. In every corner, the walls were beautifully displayed with paintings and prints. Since I’m not an expert on furniture, I simply enjoyed a leisurely stroll through the collection. It seemed like every piece was curated from the collections of world-renowned furniture designers.
에반 로벨 컬렉션이라는 이름으로 전시가 진행중이었구요. 큰 규모의 공간이 전부 가구로 채워져 있더라구요. 벽면에는 구석구석 페인팅이나 판화 작품들도 같이 디스플레이 되어있었어요. 저는 가구는 잘 몰라서 그냥 즐거운 마음으로 천천히 둘러보고 왔어요. 모두 유명 가구 디자이너의 컬렉션 같았어요.
After leaving that area and heading downstairs, I came across an exhibition titled "Modern Cuban Artists." It was a fascinating show, filled with exotic, Cuban-inspired paintings displayed in a gallery with a very unique structural layout.
이곳을 나와 아래층으로 가니 모던 쿠바 아티스트 라는 전시를 하고있었어요. 유니크한 구조물이 있는 전시실에서 쿠바느낌의 이국적인 페인팅들이 한가득인 흥미로운 전시였어요.
I’ve heard that Bonhams covers almost every category of a traditional auction house, ranging from modern and classical art to fine wine and automobiles. Because of this, the scale felt immense and the collection incredibly vast. I left the building hoping to see even more diverse exhibitions there in the future.

본햄스는 현대미술 고미술뿐만이 아니라 와인부터 자동차까지 거의 모든 전통 옥션하우스의 품목들이 다 있다고해요. 그래서 규모도 크고 컬렉션 양이 방대한것 같았어요. 앞으로 더욱 다양한 전시들 볼수 있길 바라면서 나왔어요.
